Tom Ellis is heading back into the world of espionage as CIA prepares to return for Season 2, and CBS has now revealed new details about the missions waiting for Colin Glass and Bill Goodman.
Ellis has been a familiar face on television since his breakout role in the BBC One sitcom Miranda. However, his profile grew considerably among U.S. audiences after appearances in Once Upon a Time and, most notably, his starring role as Lucifer Morningstar in Lucifer. The DC-inspired series ran for six seasons across Fox and Netflix before concluding in 2021.
The actor returned to network television last year as part of the expanding FBI universe, taking on the role of CIA agent Colin Glass in the spy-focused spinoff CIA. Despite a difficult production that included multiple showrunner departures, the loss of a key cast member and delays that pushed the series out of the fall schedule, CIA eventually made a strong debut.
The series premiered to 8.4 million viewers and was renewed for a second season after only five episodes. Under showrunner Mike Weiss, the drama centers on FBI agent Bill Goodman, played by Nick Gehlfuss, and Ellis’ Colin Glass as the two become part of a joint task force combining FBI and CIA expertise to confront domestic terrorism threats and other enemies operating on U.S. soil.
Now, with Season 2 just weeks away, CBS has revealed what viewers can expect from some of the opening episodes.
Tom Ellis’ Colin Glass Faces a Dangerous Russian Spy Mission
CBS has released the official storyline and new images for Season 2, Episode 2, titled “Dead Drop,” teasing another dangerous assignment for Bill and Colin.
The episode will see the pair cross paths with Viktor Molotov, played by Gene Farber, a Russian spy who has been poisoned by his own supposed allies. As he faces death, Molotov offers to help the agents take out a major threat to U.S. assets — but only if they agree to help him carry out his final act of revenge.
The information could prove extremely valuable, but following Molotov’s intel is unlikely to be straightforward. One of the newly released images shows Colin and CIA analyst Gina Gosian, played by Natalee Linez, crouching behind a vehicle as they attempt to stay out of sight.
“Dead Drop” is scheduled to air on CBS on Monday, October 12.
‘CIA’ Season 2 Opens With Another ‘FBI’ Crossover
Just like the first season, CIA Season 2 will begin with another crossover involving the wider FBI universe.
The opening episode will bring back John Boyd’s FBI Special Agent Stuart Scola, who joins the team during a tense operation targeting a cartel fixer in New York City. The situation becomes significantly more complicated when the agents discover that a DEA agent has been killed in the criminal’s wake.
With the possibility of additional high-profile murders looming, the team is forced into a race against time to stop the threat.
The premiere will also reunite Colin and Bill after Bill temporarily stepped away from work following the death of his father. His return, however, comes with a major discovery that is expected to have consequences for the rest of the episode.
CIA Season 2 premieres on CBS on October 5, bringing Tom Ellis’ Colin Glass back into action alongside Nick Gehlfuss’ Bill Goodman.
