The cast of Outlander: Blood of My Blood has shared their thoughts on how Sam Heughan and Caitriona Balfe could reprise their iconic roles as Jamie and Claire Fraser if a crossover between the prequel and the original Outlander ever becomes a reality.
Serving as a historical romance prequel to Outlander, Blood of My Blood explores the lives of the families of Jamie Fraser and Claire Beauchamp long before the events of the original series. While Outlander concluded its run in 2026 after adapting Diana Gabaldon’s beloved novels, fans continue to hope that Heughan and Balfe could one day return—provided the story gives them a meaningful reason to do so.
Both stars have previously said they would be open to returning if there was a compelling storyline rather than a simple cameo. Speaking with ScreenRant’s Ash Crossan, Blood of My Blood stars Jamie Roy, Harriet Slater, Hermione Corfield, and Jeremy Irvine shared their own ideas about how Jamie and Claire could cross paths with the prequel’s characters.
Jamie Roy, who portrays Jamie Fraser’s father Brian Fraser, believes one of the most emotional possibilities would be for the adult Jamie to finally meet both of his parents. Since Jamie never truly knew his mother, Ellen, Roy thinks such a reunion could become one of the franchise’s most heartfelt moments.
Oh man. What would they do? That would be crazy. I’d love to see the interaction of Jamie meeting both his parents while alive. I think it’d be so cool because he never really knew his mom. Ellen died in childbirth, so it would be great to see a Star Wars-style scene of their Force Ghosts meeting Jamie, just two parents looking down on him as he’s grown up or something. I don’t know, that’d be quite lovely.
Harriet Slater, who plays Ellen Fraser, agreed that seeing Jamie as an adult would be a touching experience for her character. She explained that Ellen never had the chance to watch her son grow up and believes she would be incredibly proud of the man he became, especially of the life he built alongside Claire.
Slater also suggested that Ellen would likely recognize parts of herself in Claire, making the two women natural allies if they ever had the opportunity to meet.
Yeah, that’d be beautiful. It would be so nice, I think, for Ellen to meet Jamie growing up. Because, like you said, she never got the privilege of doing that. I think she’d be pretty proud of him, and of his choice in Claire. I think she’d probably see a lot of herself in Claire, actually. I think they’d really get on.
Meanwhile, Hermione Corfield and Jeremy Irvine, who portray Claire’s parents Julia Moriston and Henry Beauchamp, also explored possible crossover scenarios. Corfield imagined a subtle encounter where the characters briefly cross paths without realizing who they are, allowing both Outlander stories to connect naturally without requiring a major storyline.
Irvine noted that such a meeting would not be straightforward, pointing out that Claire herself might not even recognize what her parents looked like. With no established path for a crossover, he believes there is still plenty of room for creative ideas.
Corfield also proposed another emotional possibility, suggesting that Claire’s parents could one day hold Jamie and Claire’s son, baby Jamie, although she admitted that the idea would ultimately depend on how long the prequel characters remain alive within the story.
Corfield: That would be so fun. I think some kind of inception thing, where they walk past us, or there’s some kind of meeting, but they just miss each other.
Irvine: I suppose Claire wouldn’t really know what we look like. Maybe she’s got photos, I don’t know.
Corfield: We need some kind of interaction, but it depends on how long we live.
Irvine: I don’t know how it would work, but I’ll let the fans come up with some ideas.
Corfield: Maybe we could hold baby Jamie. That would be cool.
