Sam Heughan is moving from historical romance to modern-day danger.
The Outlander star has officially joined a major new thriller series titled Embassy, where he will play a British SAS soldier. The project pairs him with Anna Kendrick and J.K. Simmons in a high-stakes political drama set in London.

According to Deadline, the six-episode geopolitical thriller centers on a deadly crisis at the U.S. Embassy in London.
The outlet describes the story like this:
“follows Layla (Kendrick), a sharp and resourceful American diplomat, who faces an impossible choice to protect the U.S. Ambassador (Simmons) or follow his orders to exfiltrate a high value asset when armed mercenaries storm the U.S. Embassy in London. She’s forced to rely on her instincts and the reluctant help of her battle-hardened ex-fiancé, Connor Wright (Heughan), in the tense hours before extraction.”
Heughan’s character, Connor Wright, is a former fiancé turned battle-hardened SAS soldier, pulled back into Layla’s life during the most dangerous night of her career.
From Outlander to Modern Action
Heughan has just wrapped filming on Outlander. The long-running series is ending with its eighth and final season, which is set to premiere this March.
Beyond Outlander, he also starred in the first season of Starz’s The Couple Next Door, which has already been renewed for a second season. His role in Embassy marks another step into darker, more action-driven storytelling.
