Jensen Ackles has wanted to play Batman for years. Now, he’s saying it out loud again.
The Supernatural star, who already voices Batman in several DC animated projects, recently talked about the role during a fan Q&A in Las Vegas. With James Gunn still not revealing who will play Batman in the new DCU, rumors and fan casting continue to grow — and Ackles is clearly paying attention.
Fans Shout “Batman” — Ackles Responds
During a Supernatural panel, Ackles was asked what his dream role was. Before he could answer, fans shouted “Batman!”
He replied:
“Roger. Somebody up here yelled Batman. I think that is certainly a dream.”
Then he added:
“I’ve got a few go-tos, you know, Batman, Wyatt Earp, Robin Hood, that kind of stuff.”
Ackles has already played Soldier Boy in The Boys, but Batman remains the role fans most want to see him play in live action.
Why Fans Keep Casting Ackles as Batman
Ackles already has a strong connection to DC. He has voiced Batman in several animated films, and his serious, intense screen presence makes him a popular fan choice. Still, James Gunn has not confirmed who will play Batman in the DCU.
What Gunn has said is that Batman and Wonder Woman are “incredibly important,” but he doesn’t want two Batman movies releasing in the same year. That keeps the mystery alive — and the fan theories going.
Misha Collins Shares His Own Batman Dreams
Ackles wasn’t alone on stage. His Supernatural co-star Misha Collins also talked about wanting a major DC role. He once played Harvey Dent on Gotham Knights and said:
“It’s funny you mentioning Batman because playing Two-Face was a dream role.”
He joked about missing out on the role:
“Sebastian Stan just got cast as Two-Face in the next Batman movie, which I did not not feel jealous about. If he were to meet with an accident and they needed to find — I’d certainly free up my schedule to make myself available.”
He added:
“I think an awesome hero role like that would be super cool to play on the big screen.”
What’s Next for Batman in Theaters
The only confirmed Batman movie right now is The Batman Part II. Robert Pattinson will return as the Dark Knight, and the movie is set to release on October 1, 2027.
In the past, Harvey Dent/Two-Face has been played by Aaron Eckhart in The Dark Knight, Tommy Lee Jones in Batman Forever, and Harry Lawtey in Joker: Folie à Deux.
Who will play Batman in the DCU, though, is still unknown.
Jensen Ackles and Misha Collins Reunite on The Boys
While Batman remains a question mark, fans will definitely see Ackles and Collins together again.
Ackles will return as Soldier Boy in the fifth and final season of The Boys. He’s also getting a spinoff series called Vought Rising. Even better for Supernatural fans, Misha Collins and Jared Padalecki will also appear, and all three will share the screen.
Details about their characters are still secret.
