The Walking Dead star Norman Reedus has officially wrapped his final day of filming as Daryl Dixon, marking the end of a character who has become one of the most beloved figures in the franchise.
Reedus first portrayed the skilled archer in the original The Walking Dead before taking the lead in the spin-off The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon. The series, which premiered in 2023, ran for three seasons and was recently renewed for a fourth and final chapter.
After finishing his last day on set, Reedus shared a heartfelt message with fans. “Last filming day today for daryl dixon,” he wrote on Twitter/X. “It’s been such a joy for me to play this guy with all of u for this long. I feel really blessed. Truly. Thank you all really from my heart.”
While shooting the final season in Spain, Reedus reflected on what it means to have played Daryl for 15 years and how the upcoming ending has affected him personally. “You know, it’s different. This show has always coincided with my life a bit. With season four, Daryl really goes inside [himself], and so, I’m inside, too,” he told The Hollywood Reporter.
“I’m in my head a lot, especially for the episode we’re filming now. It’s filling my head with the future, the past and the present of this character.”
Reedus promised that the final episodes will conclude Daryl’s journey “in a perfect way.” He also hinted that he believes “there’s always more story you can tell,” though there are currently no plans to continue the character’s arc beyond this final season.
Reflecting on how the show has evolved since its first season, Reedus explained that the creative direction has always remained fluid. “There’s no season in the future already written when we’re working on the first,” he said. “It’s created organically as we go along.”
