Reacher star Alan Ritchson has revealed the major element of season four that he pushed Amazon to preserve, admitting that he wanted the action series to return to the more brutal and intense style that made earlier seasons stand out.

The latest chapter of the high-octane Prime Video thriller once again saw Ritchson return as former military investigator Jack Reacher, delivering the kind of explosive action fans have come to expect from the series. However, the season four finale took a different approach from previous showdowns, moving away from the usual formula of Reacher facing off against a massive physical opponent.
Instead, Reacher found himself battling assassin Lila Hoth after discovering her plan to release a deadly toxin on the public. The confrontation became one of the season’s most intense moments, with Hoth and her accomplice, Amisha Hoth, attacking Reacher with knives in a brutal fight that ended with Reacher killing them both.
Speaking to Collider, Ritchson explained that he had several discussions with Amazon, the producers, and the writers because he wanted the show to fully embrace its violent and uncompromising style.
“I had a lot of conversations with Amazon and my producing partners and writers about how I want to continue pushing how aggressive some of these interactions can be on the show,” he began. “It’s gotten a little tame, in my opinion.”
The actor continued by explaining that he felt the series had started moving away from the intensity that originally defined it.
“I felt like we’d veered away from that a little bit and got a little safe, and censored some of what we could do.”
For season four, Ritchson said he “fought really, really hard” to bring back the ruthless energy of the earlier episodes and maintain the show’s distinctive style.
“I want to continue to push stuff for that hyper-real, hyper-violent experience.”
Alongside his role in Reacher, Ritchson is also set to appear in the upcoming spin-off series Neagley, which focuses on Frances Neagley, the character played by Maria Sten.
The actor also opened up about why he believed Sten’s character had the potential to carry her own story from the very beginning of Reacher. He recalled seeing her impact during the first season and immediately recognizing that she brought something unique to the series.
“[She was] in the finale in Season 1 sniping people. As soon as you see her move, she moves in a way that’s pretty distinct.
“I mean, she’s super physical and capable in real life, and it’s a natural transition into the role that she plays.
“I saw that and was really pleasantly surprised as soon as we started working together. There’s nobody better to represent the strength of a highly capable woman who specializes in protecting the innocent than Maria.”
With Neagley expanding the Reacher universe and season four pushing the boundaries of its action sequences, Ritchson appears determined to keep the franchise focused on the intense, physical storytelling that has made Jack Reacher one of Prime Video’s biggest characters.
