House of the Dragon season 3 unveils epic final trailer as war erupts across Westeros
House of the Dragon has released its epic final trailer for season three, giving fans a thrilling glimpse of the battles, dragons and political conflict set to dominate the next chapter of the Game of Thrones prequel.
With the series returning to screens next month, the action-packed preview teases a Westeros on the brink of all-out war. The trailer showcases massive dragon battles, intense confrontations and the growing struggle for power as Rhaenyra faces an expanding list of enemies.
Speaking to Entertainment Weekly about the upcoming season, Rhaenyra star Emma D’Arcy revealed that the scale of the series has increased significantly.
“There was a degree of thrill at what was on the page this season because the show’s gotten bigger, not just in terms of its dramatic scale, but actually in terms of its ambition,” the star said.
“It’s very exciting when that happens. It felt to me that the bar had been raised – and I’m a competitive person, so I wanted to meet that.”
One of the season’s biggest highlights will be the long-awaited Battle of the Gullet. Showrunner Ryan Condal described the episode as “arguably the craziest episode of television ever made”.
D’Arcy also praised the show’s creative team for how they have built toward the conflict over the course of the series.
“The series this time around starts at 60 miles an hour. We’re finally watching a war that has been building for two seasons…
“I’m so impressed by Ryan and the team, because it’s to really hold your nerve to stage a conflict that has been, until now, primarily interpersonal, interfamily – and then [to] finally, in one huge gesture, allow that conflict to unleash on the realm as a whole, I think is some very classy plotting.”
Season three will see D’Arcy return alongside familiar faces including Matt Smith, Olivia Cooke, Ewan Mitchell and Tom Glynn-Carney. New cast member James Norton also joins the series as Lord Ormund Hightower.
Meanwhile, HBO executive Casey Bloys has confirmed ongoing plans for House of the Dragon to conclude with a fourth season.
“Yes, that is the idea,” Bloys told Deadline.
“The idea has always been to follow the history of the Targaryens. If you know the books, you know how the Targaryens end up. So there is a natural end to this particular history of that House of the Targaryens.”
With a major war finally breaking out and the story moving closer to its planned conclusion, season three is shaping up to be one of the most ambitious chapters of House of the Dragon yet.
