Alan Ritchson’s New Sci-Fi Action Movie War Machine Gets Netflix Release Date

Netflix has officially confirmed the release date for War Machine, its upcoming science-fiction action film starring Reacher lead Alan Ritchson alongside Dragonheart star Dennis Quaid. While it’s not arriving at short notice, the wait won’t be a long one.

The film follows a group of troops in the final stages of a special operations boot camp whose training exercise takes a deadly turn. What begins as routine preparation quickly becomes a fight for survival when invaders from another world suddenly appear.

War Machine will debut on Netflix on Friday, 6 March, making it an ideal pick for a weekend watch. Ritchson and Quaid lead a cast that also includes Keiynan Lonsdale (Love, Simon), Jai Courtney (The Suicide Squad films), Stephan James (If Beale Street Could Talk), Esai Morales from the Mission: Impossible franchise, and Jack Patten from the recent Robin Hood series.

The film is directed by Patrick Hughes, who also serves as co-writer and co-producer. Hughes is best known for helming The Expendables 3, The Hitman’s Bodyguard, and its sequel.

At the time of writing, Netflix has yet to release a trailer or any official images from the film. However, Dennis Quaid has already hinted at the kind of experience viewers can expect.

“I had a blast down there in Australia for a couple of weeks,” he said. “It was great, because I got to play the general and I never got my uniform dirty at all. Wonderful.

“Alan was up to his chest and mud. He’s really good in [the film] — it’s going to be wild to watch.”

Meanwhile, November brought confirmation that production on season 4 of Ritchson’s Prime Video series Reacher had wrapped, suggesting the show remains on track for a release later this year. Reflecting on the demanding shoot, the actor compared the experience to life in politics.

“I feel like the way the presidents come out of the White House looking grey and old, that’s how I feel each year doing Reacher,” he said. “I feel like 10 lifetimes have been lived. So for me to be a week away, it’s like I see the light at the end of the tunnel.”

War Machine premieres on Netflix on 6 March.
