The Vampire Diaries star Nina Dobrev has secured a leading role in an upcoming erotic thriller, where she will also serve as an executive producer. The actor is set to headline Night Float, created by Lila Raicek and adapted for television from Raicek’s own play Vertebrae.
According to Deadline, which first revealed the news, the series is described as a “propulsive exploration of desire and power, obsession and betrayal”. The story follows a woman who relocates to New York to live in hospital housing with her boyfriend, only to become entangled with an older doctor who persuades her to enter the dangerous and illegal world of insider trading. As the connection deepens, the question quickly becomes: has she gotten in over her head?
At the time of writing, neither additional cast members nor a network or streaming platform have been announced.
This marks another project on Dobrev’s growing slate. She recently wrapped filming on the action thriller Bear Country alongside Russell Crowe. She is also set to star in the romantic comedy It Happened One Summer, appearing opposite Superman & Lois and Final Fantasy VII Remake star Tyler Hoechlin, as well as Halloween’s Virginia Gardner.
Just over a year ago, Dobrev announced her engagement to Olympic gold medalist snowboarder Shaun White. However, in September, People reported that the pair had split after five years together. The speculation arose when she appeared on a red carpet without her ring and removed their engagement announcement from Instagram. While the duo have not publicly commented on the break-up, the publication stated that the separation was mutual and amicable.
The Vampire Diaries originally aired for eight seasons between 2009 and 2017, with the franchise continuing through spin-offs The Originals and Legacies until 2022.
