Jared Padalecki Teases New CBS Medical Drama: “I Can’t Wait for You All to See”

Last week brought exciting news for Jared Padalecki (known for Supernatural, Walker, and Fire Country) and showrunner Anna Fricke regarding their previously announced CBS medical drama. The project received a green light from the network to open a development room, a promising step toward production. If the series moves forward, it could debut in either the 2026–2027 or 2027–2028 television season.

Earlier today, Padalecki took to social media to express his gratitude for the opportunity and the support that helped get the series moving.

“I’m incredibly excited to share that our production company is in development on new medical drama with CBS. I’m deeply grateful to the network for believing in this story and the world we’re building,” Padalecki shared on Instagram. “A special thank-you to Anna — her vision, talent, and leadership have made this journey something truly inspiring. Getting to collaborate with her and this creative team is a privilege I don’t take for granted. I can’t wait for you all to see what we’ve been working on. Thank you for the support that makes opportunities like this possible. ❤️”

Padalecki previously explained in June that developing a series and reaching the production stage can be a lengthy process. He added that the team hopes to begin filming either in late 2025 or early 2026.

When the CBS series was first announced, fans learned that Padalecki would trade his badge for a stethoscope, transitioning from Texas Ranger to rural doctor. Unlike traditional medical dramas set in large hospitals, this series will focus on rural medicine in Texas. Padalecki is expected to portray a headstrong, devoted country doctor who “practices his unique style of improvisational medicine alongside his new protégé, a young doctor running from her past, as they operate a mobile clinic and heal the bodies and souls of their underserved community in the medical desert of rural Texas.”

The series is being developed by CBS Studios and will be executive produced by Walker showrunner Anna Fricke and Laura Terry through Fricke’s Pursued by a Bear. Jared Padalecki and Genevieve Padalecki are also serving as executive producers. (Dan Spilo is no longer involved with the project.)
