Outlander’s Caitriona Balfe Joins A24 Movie Alongside The Bear’s Ebon Moss-Bachrach

Caitriona Balfe and Ebon Moss-Bachrach are among the newest additions to the cast of the upcoming A24 film A Long Winter.

The Outlander and The Bear stars have been cast in the movie from filmmaker Andrew Haigh, according to Variety. Joining them are Manuel Garcia-Rulfo and David Furr, who add to a growing ensemble of previously announced actors.

Production is currently underway in Alberta, Canada. The film is based on an adaptation of Colm Tóibín’s short story of the same name, with Andrew Haigh both writing and directing the feature.

A Long Winter “follows Louise, the alcoholic mother of Mike and Tommy, who takes off after a quarrel with her husband Lester — walking with her dog to the home of her brother Frank, quite a few miles away. When a snowstorm blows up suddenly and socks in the entire area, Lester and Mike begin a search that soon expands with the aid of local neighbors and law enforcement,” the synopsis explains.

This marks another exciting chapter for both Balfe and Moss-Bachrach, who each have multiple projects in the works.

Caitriona Balfe will return for the upcoming eighth and final season of Outlander, as well as the forthcoming Sense and Sensibility remake, which filmed over the summer.

Ebon Moss-Bachrach is set to reprise his Fantastic Four role in the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday, alongside his part in The Bear season five. In addition, he will make his Broadway debut in Spring 2026.
