Outlander fans are already feeling emotional after a new behind-the-scenes clip from the show’s eighth and final season dropped online — even though the last chapter is still some time away from airing.
Following the recent release of a teaser trailer and behind-the-scenes photos hinting at the epic conclusion, a fresh video was shared on the show’s official Instagram account. The clip captures the cast and crew returning to set for the first day of filming on Season 8 — a moment that quickly struck fans as deeply bittersweet.
Sam Heughan, who plays Jamie Fraser, reflected on the emotional milestone in the video. “Yes, this is our last first day back on the Ridge. Back at the house or what’s left of it. It’s just nice to see everyone again. Lots of familiar faces,” he said.
Executive producer Maril Davis admitted the weight of the moment was already hitting hard. “This was a bittersweet day. I mean, it’s the last day we’ll come to set for Outlander for the first day. I’m feeling emotional. I feel like it’s gonna be a long season of, ‘Oh, this is the last, first time we’ll do this.’ So I’m going to pace myself because I’m already getting [teary].”
As Davis became visibly emotional, showrunner and fellow executive producer Matthew B. Roberts added a wry observation: “Just for the record, everything is the last, first whatever. The last first time we’re there.”
Series lead Caitríona Balfe echoed that sense of disbelief, sharing her own reaction in the clip. “The last first day. I don’t know, it feels very strange. I’m a little bit like, feels momentous, but it also sort of feels like we haven’t left.”
John Bell, who plays Young Ian Murray, reflected on how much has changed — and how much hasn’t. “It feels like we were here yesterday and so arriving onto set and kind of seeing the big house gone, really kind of thinking like, how much we’ve all changed. It’s exciting. I’m ready for a party this season. Let’s send it out with a bang.”
The video was paired with an emotional caption reading: “Well, it’s not the first time I’m crying, and it certainly won’t be the last. #Outlander.”
The official STARZ account echoed the same message in its own post.
