Just days after the sci-fi phenomenon Stranger Things reached its emotional conclusion, Netflix has revealed “one last adventure” for fans of the series. Titled One Last Adventure: The Making of Stranger Things 5, the newly announced documentary is set to premiere on the streaming platform next week and will offer an exclusive behind-the-scenes look at the show’s fifth and final season.
Premiering globally on Netflix on 12 January, the documentary promises to take viewers inside “the years of effort and craft that went into the final instalment of the Duffer Brothers’ generation-defining series.” It aims to pull back the curtain on how the beloved show was brought to life one final time.
A decade after audiences were first introduced to Hawkins, Indiana, Stranger Things came to an end with a two-hour finale episode that aired on New Year’s Eve. The episode, set to Prince’s Purple Rain, delivered an emotional farewell that left fans heartbroken around the world.
The new documentary follows the cast, creators, and crew as they work toward completing the final season, capturing the process of saying goodbye to the series that changed their lives forever. It documents the journey from set to screen, highlighting the emotional and creative weight of bringing the story to its conclusion.
In a statement, director Martina Radwan, who helmed what she described as a “sweeping behind-the-scenes chronicle,” thanked the Duffer brothers “for trusting me with a front-row seat to this incredible journey.” She added: “Spending a full year on set with them was a true privilege—and an absolute thrill. Being able to get close and watching them bring this beloved show to life in real time, was pure joy. I only wish I could travel back in time and document Seasons 1 through 4.”
The Duffer brothers also shared their own thoughts on the project, revealing that they drew inspiration from behind-the-scenes documentaries made for The Lord of the Rings trilogy. They described those films as “on-the-ground films that showed the real nuts and bolts of how a massive production actually gets made.”
Their statement continued: “We saw how stressed Peter Jackson was and thought: yep, that’s the dream. With the decline of physical media, that kind of behind-the-scenes storytelling has largely disappeared.”
Explaining their motivation, the brothers concluded: “We wanted to bring it back. One Last Adventure: The Making of Stranger Things Season 5 – beautifully captured and directed by Martina Radwan – is our attempt to do just that. If you love Stranger Things, or if you’re simply curious how a major Hollywood production comes to life, this one’s for you.”
