Prepare yourselves, Outlander fans. A major update about the show’s final season is here—and Sam Heughan is being brutally honest about it.
As the beloved period drama wraps up after eight seasons, viewers are desperate to see the Frasers on screen one last time. While Starz, the network behind Outlander, has stayed quiet about what’s next, fans were recently given a big surprise regarding the premiere of the final episodes.
According to a report from Variety on November 10, Outlander season 8 will debut on Starz on March 6, 2026. Sam Heughan, who plays Jamie Fraser, took to Instagram to share his gratitude with everyone who has followed the series from the very beginning.
“Every story comes to an end …💖,” he wrote emotionally in the caption. “This journey was a huge part of my life, I’m thankful to all the cast and crew, everyone that was involved in creating the love story that spanned decades. Thanks ultimately to herself @diana_gabaldon and of course, the fans. Are you ready for the final season @outlander_starz ?!! ⭐️.”

It’s worth remembering that Outlander started as a book series by Diana Gabaldon, with the first novel published in June 1991. The franchise later became a television series, premiering on Starz in August 2014. Over the years, it has captured the hearts of fans worldwide.
While fans are sad to see Sam on screen less frequently, the actor himself admitted in March 2025 that working on Outlander until the very end was deeply emotional.
“Well, that’s it. The last ADR on Outlander completed on the Universal lot,” he said in an Instagram video. “The studio’s behind me, but yeah, very emotional … I’m very excited for the fans to see the final episode.”
Grab the tissues, because it looks like the Fraser family’s story is almost over—and fans are definitely not ready to say goodbye.
